Three stone arrangement with a large outlier, possibly the ruins of a larger circle. A very imposing monument.
Home > On almost any journey through Ireland the observant traveller should encounter at least one or two standing stones. These enigmatic and often massive curiosities are found across the country, sometimes in neat rows of three or more or as strange arrangements such as at Lettergorman, County Cork (right) but mostly as solitary punctuations in the landscape. Their meaning or purpose has been lost over the thousands of years since they were erected but they still remain permanent landmarks in the countryside, as was surely their most important function.

A view from the opposite side of the 'entrance', the stones here form a loose triangle as can be seen in the next photo.

Lettergorman is an intruiging site, some have said it is the remnants of a four stone circle, perhaps the large outlier 75 metres away was once a part of the main arrangement, perhaps there were more stones here at one time. What remains here is impressive enough, the tallest of the stones towers above you and is vaguely similar to the large outlier at Uragh stone circle in Kerry.

Seen from above it looks like the broken down remains of an enormous tripod dolmen.
