Many portal tombs change form as you walk around them and see them from varying angles, Kilclooney More is simply spectacular from every angle. It is also a very large example of this type of tomb. Click on the link below to see this shape-shifting effect in photos taken during sunrise and sunset.

The sun breaks the clouds on a fine summer morning.
Ken Williams > The massive court in front of the tomb is almost entirely enclosed with just a narrow walkway in the centre allowing access to the court and tomb.

As can be seen here, the site had also been used thousands of years later to smelt iron in the structure protruding from the left side of the court in this picture.
Ken Williams > Looking from the capstone over the entrance to the chambers, into the large galleries which have no remaining roofing, but do have well preserved walling.
Ken Williams > Creevykeel Court Tomb, just off the main road between Sligo and Donegal, is possibly the best preserved court tomb in Ireland, rivalled only be Creggandevesky in Co. Tyrone. Although cramped into a walled enclosure, the sheer massive scale of the tombs here is staggering. The photo on left was taken from the top of the surrounding wall and it is hard to take in the whole site except from up high.
