Ken Williams > Garrane is a truly massive (scroll down to the photo with a person for scale!) stone alignment located in a quiet, broad valley a mile or two west of the small village of Bweeng, Co. Cork.

One of the stones has fallen though the row loses none of its domineering presence. This fallen stone now lies next to the row though it has been moved from where it fell.
Ken Williams > The stones of the circle vary hugely in size, the portals are over 6ft and the stones are loosely graded downwards towards the recumbent stone which is bulky and flat topped. It features some cup marks carved into the top and it also gives the impression of an altar. Perhaos this is why the circle is also known as The Druids Ring.

Infamous rumours of animal or human sacrifice have no basis in archaeological evidence and in all Drombeg does not appear to the casual visitor as a sinister place.
Ken Williams > The name Drombeg means 'little ridge' and at this spot sometime in the bronze age, ancient people carved a platform in the hill side and built Drombeg stone circle and the various domestic remains scattered about.

The circle has a fine view of the valley below and the sea is visible along part of the horizon. It is possible to climb the ridge above the circle and view it from above, just one other reason why Drombeg is so popular. It is very easy to access the site and it has its own carpark and ransacked 'information cabin'.
