Ken Williams > This small carved boulder is now embedded into the wall in front of a house, facing onto a quiet country road.

There are quite a number of cup marks which are easily visible under normal lighting but it is only with the help of some side light that we can see that many of the cup marks are/were surrounded by single rings. There are also some possible gutters. The markings seem to continue below present ground level and this is possibly a fragment of a larger piece.
Ken Williams > Frontal view of the carved face.
Ken Williams > This carved stone was originally discovered when a field wall was being made and now stands pride of place in the front garden of the landowner.

The roughly triangular slab is carved on one face and features at least four cup and ring marks, a scattering of single cup marks and some cross shaped motifs.
Ken Williams > This small, charming piece of rock art was found by the landowner buried in a field. It was then moved to the gardens of Spahill house where it remains, thoughfully covered by a plastic basin to prevent weathering of the markings.

A cup and ring mark is joined with some linear grooves which encircle the face of the small boulder. The stone also features a rather unique deeply cut curved groove which is the only marking clearly visible in dull lighting, above this is another cup mark on the boulders edge.

Weighing well over 100 tonnes, Brownshill Dolmen's capstone is the largest in Ireland, and possibly Europe. From the car-park in front of the tomb its hard to appreciate the sheer mass of it, after the short walk along the pathway you discover that this tomb easily dwarfs all others.

One of Irelands most appealing portal tombs, Haroldstown Dolmen apparently housed a family during the famine in the 1840's. Its solid and robust feel is enhanced by the collapsed rear capstone covering the rear of the chamber, and the remains of its cairn prop up the rear. Photos taken on a spectacular 15 minute sunset show on New Years Eve 2004.
