Overgrown but striking tombs not far from Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone.
ight beside a by-road not far from Newtownstewart in Co. Tyrone, two impressive tombs sharing a single cairn lie in an overgrown enclosure next to a barn.
The more complete tomb (left) has two capstones and two chambers, and also a lintel above the portal stones, quite a rare feature also seen in Kilclooney More in Co. Donegal.
Access to the site is very easy, but the closer you get the tougher it is to finally reach it.
The more complete tomb again, you can see more of the rear chamber in this view.
From the rear, almost swallowed by the undergrowth.
The other portal tomb has no capstone but once must have looked quite impressive with its tall slender portal stones. This tomb is invisible from the road and is even more hidden beneath the vegetation.
The smaller tomb side-on, a modern barn is very near to the tombs.
