Fascinating collection of circles, rows and cairns in the Sperrin mountains, Co. Tyrone.
Beaghmore in Co. Tyrone is one of the strangest collections of stone circles and rows in all of Ireland, though it is only one of many such sites in the Sperrin mountains nearby. There are seven stone circles in all, none have very large stones and most are miniscule, six are in pairs and one sits alone. Rows of stones form tangents to the circles and the multitude of small cairns that litter the site.
There are no obvious alignments to astronomical events in the rows and circles, even the circles themselves are sometimes haphazardly laid out. As mentioned there are three pairs of circles and one lone circle. This is unusual for circles in Ireland and the lone circle is all the more unusual for having over 800 small pointed stones set inside the ring.
Two low circles, F and G, are perfectly shaped and a cairn between the circles has a bank and ditch around it. Two other cairns can be seen in the background on the right hand side.
Three of the larger stones set between circles C and D.
