Every Thursday night the ruins around the forum of Pompeii are lit up in a sound and light show spectacular. This sequence of photographs was taken on the 4th of August 2005. Unfortunately tripods are not allowed inside the excavations without special permission so most of these photos were taken handheld or using whatever support was available such as pillars etc. Even though they are sometimes blurred and grainy you can still get a feel of the extraordinary efforts to light the ruins symapthetically yet unobtrusively. None of the lighting equipment or cabling are visible during the day.
