The best known and best loved Dolmen, easy on the eye and easy for the casual visitor to visit.
Late evening in November 2005.
There is a low sill stone at the entrance which has broken at some point in history, it may originally have blocked the entrance right up to the capstone. Evidence from the manner of the burial deposits indicates the bones of all those found inside were brought here and deposited all at once, when the bodies had fully decomposed. Perhaps the bodies were placed elsewhere such as a cave for a long period of time (maybe several generations) before being brought here and its possible the tomb was then sealed.

A summer sunset in June 2005.
The tomb is very conspicuously sited along the road from Leamaneh Castle (on the Corofin-Ennistymon road) to Ballyvaughan. Following the promninent signs for the Aillwee cave will bring you right past it.
