Among the many impressive megaliths of Wales, Pentre Ifan is by far the most famous and most visited today. It's not hard to understand why.
The picturesque remains of this long chambered mound form an elegant, gravity defying tripod type dolmen with a capstone over 5m long and weighing in at an estimated 16 tonnes. It is held aloft by three tall orthostats and a large doorstone. The entrance is flanked by large upright stones which originally formed part of a forecout area at the widest end of a long covering mound.
