This ruined stone circle would have been most impressive when it was still complete, accounts from a few centuries ago atest to its former glory and highlight the fact that its destruction is quite recent.
Interestingly, this circle has a small quartz boulder in its centre and its huge block-like recumbent stone is also shot through with quartz.
The circle sits in a field right beside the roadway near to the town of Clonakilty in west Cork, the most westerly of the large recumbent stone circles found around the Rosscarbery Bay area such as Drombeg and Reanascreena. Nearby is a large ogham stone and early christian monastic ruins.
