Carrowmore is a large site with many tombs which have controversially been dated to over 7,000 years old. Some of the dates would put the tombs older than the introduction of farming in Ireland and have been rejected by some archaeologists. What remains here is fascinating and tragic at the same time, the site has been heavily robbed and destroyed and some of the damage is also quite recent. The area is overlooked by the imposing Knocknarea mountain which has of course the very large cairn called Maeve's Cairn on its summit.

Tomb 5 consists of the remains of a chamber and a single kerbstone on a low circular mound, though small it is probably the most charming of all the tombs.
